Thousands of people gathered at Mucheke Stadium to celebrate the country’s 43rd Independence running under the theme: “Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo/llizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo”.
A day in which we commemorate the freedom of this country, in which we became a self governing people after nearly a century of settlers Colonial rule , a sovereign Nation born out of a protracted armed struggle.
The Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Ezra Chadzamira read the Presidential speech and inspected the guard of honour after the national anthem with 43 Zimbabwean flags hoisted in the stadium which is a symbol of 43 years of freedom.
There were lots of entertainment including a soccer challenge between Masvingo United and FC Mabvuku from Harare. It was a happy moment for Masvingo residents as Una Una clinched the trophy and for their efforts walked away with a trophy, medals and cash prizes courtesy of Harare businessman and Zanu PF parliamentary candidate for Mabvuku Cde Scot Sakupwanya.
He donated the trophy, medals and US$900 for the winners prize money and top Masvingo lawyer Advocate Phillip Shumba topped up the amount with a further US$200 while Junior Group of Companies founder, Noah Marima chipped in with US$400 for the province to have a memorable Independence celebration.
Present at the celebrations was ZNA 4 Brigade Commander Brigadier General Ephias Mahachi and Police Officer Commanding Masvingo Province, Commissioner David Mahoya, Masvingo war veterans league provincial chair Retired Major General Gibson Mashingaidze, war veterans provincial chair Cde Tendeukai Chinooneka, Zanu PF provincial chair Cde Rabson Mavhenyengwa and Masvingo Deputy Mayor Councillor Wellington Mawende, among others.
