MUTARE-Chiefs in Manicaland are backing Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3, specifically the clause extending President Mnangagwa’s term of office by two more years to 2030.

At a gathering in Mutare at Platinum Leisure, Chief Ngonyamo of Chipinge said the bill gives adequate time for legislators and the executive to complete their projects, citing President Mnangagwa’s developments in Chipinge.
”We are impressed by the works that our President has done so far especially in Chipinge. We pray that he should remain in office until 2030 so that he can be able to complete all the developmental projects that he started.
“No one is able to finish it. If you look at the houses being constructed in Chipinge even our colonial masters never had the chance to build those houses. But since President Mnangagwa assumed office he has developed Chipinge town. As the chiefs we support that when the Head of State is appointed he should be given enough time to fulfill what he would have planned,” said the traditional leader.
Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister Misheck Mugadza emphasized that amending the constitution was not new and the seven year term will give President Mnangagwa enough time to develop the country.

“It is not a joke that we want to develop our country, but this is not an overnight job. If people are always in election mode, they will not be able to perform well at their tasks or even advancing development. So, by extending the term of office to seven years, that gives our President six and half years to develop the country, with the remaining six months reserved election mode.
“We are not after elections. We used to like them (elections), thinking it was democracy at play but we cannot have them after every two months as this would mean we will continue to be in election mode yet the country will be recording zero on development. Here in Manicaland, our President has launched many projects that have since been completed and we are all happy with that,” said Mugadza.
