-gets life prison for heinous crime
MIDWEEK REPORTER
CHIPINGE-Edmore Mandeere (37) of Maturura Mukono Village under Chief Mutema in Chipinge will rue the day he took out a hunting knife and callously stabbed his wife all over the body leading to her death.
Mandeere will spend the rest of his life in jail for butchering his wife, Paidamoyo Madhochi on 27 Septyember, 2022 to death whom he married when she was only 14 years old.
Mandeere was sentenced to life in jail for murder as defined in Section 47 (1) (a) or (b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 after a full trial at the High Court in Mutare which was presided over by Justice Isaac Muzenda.
Senior court official Jane Matsikidze stood in for the state and successfully got the most severe possible sentence against the heartless murderer.
It was the state case that the deceased and the murderer were customarily married and their relationship turned sour along the way resulting in Madhochi ditching the marriage for her parents’ home.
An auntie, Harriet Shupikai tried to counsel the two as per the Shona custom but the deceased was adamant that she would not back to the abusive marriage.
Mandeere phoned his wife to come and collect her belongings at their matrimonial home and she went there in the company of Shupikai and Memory Mutisi both from Mandifura Village under Chief Mutema in Chipinge as she felt insecure to go back alone.
Matsikidze told the court that as she was packing her belongings Mandeere again begged her not to leave him but she went ahead to pack her bags.
Without warning Mandeere withdrew a hunting knife and stabbed Madhochi several times on various body parts.
Matsikidze narrated how the accused killed his wife in a cold blooded manner using a hunting knife without any remorse in full glare of other relatives and he went on to threaten those who wanted to restrain him with same punishment as the deceased.
Madhochi bled heavily from the stab wounds and died on the spot.
The matter was reported to the Police who attended the scene and took the body to Chipinge Hospital for postmortem by Dr. Brian Makumbe who confirmed that she had died of exsanguination (the loss of blood from the circulatory system of a vertebrate usually leading to death).
The sentence comes as the nation joins the rest of the world in commemorating 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence and will send a strong message against would be perpetrators that the full wrath of the law will descend upon them if they engage in GBV said prominent lawyer Philip Shumba of Mutendi, Shumba and Mudisi Legal Practitioners.
