GWERU-Police in Gweru are investigating a case where an 18 year old Gweru man drowned in a Council swimming pool.
The unfortunate incident happened on Saturday at around 1530 hours at Gweru City Council swimming pool.
Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer Inspector Emmanuel Mahoka confirmed the incident in a press release.
Mahoka said the now deceased Tatenda Kuvarega of Light Industrial Sight Gweru jumped into the swimming pool intending to swim. He drowned at once as he did not know how to swim.
Kuvarega was helped by a member of the public who was nearby who jumped into the swimming and pulled him out.
Kuvarega was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Mahoka advised members of the public that inexperienced swimmers must be monitored for safety.
“We advise that whenever inexperienced swimmers venture into deep waters, they should be accompanied and monitored for safety,” he said.
