Masvingo – The 22nd edition of the prestigious Makovah Memorial Golf tournament tees off at the scenic 9 hole Masvingo Golf Club on Friday.

This flagship event on Zimbabwe’s golfing calendar promises two days of thrilling competition, camaraderie, and charity.

Brian Matake, captain of Masvingo Golf Club confirmed the tournament to The Midweek Watch.

“We are excited to host the annual Makovah Memorial Golf Tournament, the tournament aims to promote golf development in Masvingo and surrounding regions, honoring the legacy of the late Makovahs. Past editions have seen impressive turnout and fierce competition, despite the counter attractions, we are confident that our event will attract a strong field of golfers. Our course is in excellent condition, and we are looking forward to a fantastic weekend of golf and camaraderie,” said Matake.

Golf enthusiasts from across the country are expected to converge on the picturesque course, with top golfers and amateurs vying for the coveted title. Registration fees are USD$50 per golfer, with juniors participating for USD$30, covering two rounds of golf, meals, a Saturday night braai ticket, and a golf gift.

The weekend’s program kicks off on Friday with registration, golf, player auctions, and a charity auction at 11 am. In the evening, participants will gather at Hippo Creek Lodge for a social event.

Saturday’s proceedings will tee off with the second round of golf, culminating in a braai, raffle, and prize-giving ceremony at the 19th Hole.

Matake confirmed that, this year’s beneficiaries include the Mayor’s Cheer Fund, Kapota School for the Blind, and Murambwi Foundation which pays school fees for the less privileged at Mucheke High School where the Makovahs went to school.

More than 60 players are expected to converge at the golf club for the annual competition which honours the late keen golfer John Makovah.
