Latest on crashed presidential chopper
MIDWEEK REPORTER
MASVINGO CITY-The wreckage of the presidential chopper that crash landed at Masvingo Airport on Sunday is set to be ferried to Harare by road today, a source at the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) has confirmed.
“Logistics are in place to transport the wreckage to Harare using a low bed abnormal load truck and that will be done today in the morning or evening,” said the source who is not authorized to speak to the press.
Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe spokesperson Firstme Vitori was not in her office when The Midweek Watch called her office to get confirmation.
An engineer with CAAZ told The Midweek Watch that the fate of a crashed aeroplane depends with the extend of the damage because it can be taken to Harare or the wreckage may be dumped at the scene of accident or it can be repaired and flown back to its base.
“As for the crashed Masvingo chopper, it is not badly damaged so it will be taken to Harare by road after removing the propeller so that it can fit in the abnormal truck,” said the engineer.
The presidential chopper crash landed at Masvingo Airport soon after taking off to ferry President Mnangagwa from his birthday bash that was held at the iconic Great Zimbabwe Monuments which coincided with the launch of Munhumutapa Day and Housing Scheme for the youth.
Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere confirmed at Tuesday’s post cabinet briefing that the chopper was meant to ferry the President from Masvingo when it crash landed.
