SHURUGWI-Police have arrested two suspects and are searching for the third one in connection with the assault and killing of Oliver Gwama over a $15 debt dispute.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2024, at the Majachani Business Center in Shurugwi.
Jabulani Mutami (39), of Village Sheki, Chief Gwasela in Zhombe, and Tawanda Zimuto (27), from Village Madzivire, Chief Nhema in Shurugwi, are accused of beating Gwama alongside a third suspect, Nicholas Gwande, while the group was drinking beer.
“Gwande allegedly began beating Gwama with his bare hands, and Mutami and Zimuto joined in the attack,” said Midlands province spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
Gwama, of Maunganidze Village, Chief Watungwa in Chivi, was able to flee the scene but his body was found later that afternoon about 400 meters from the business center, police said.
“On the same day at about 2pm, a lifeless body of Gwama was found lying at Blooming Lilly Mine,” Mahoko added.
Gwande is still at large and anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest police station.
