Kwekwe men left US$2k poorer by armed robbers

KWEKWE-ZRP confirms a robbery case, where two Kwekwe men lost $2 000 USD to a gang of three armed robbers who pretended as if they needed help to fix a broken down motor vehicle.

 The incident occurred on 16 December 2023 at around 1900 hours at Truckers Inn, Kwekwe, The Midweek Watch has learnt

It is alleged, on the day in question, Edson and Kidson Kutyauripo who are the complainants were on their way from Jena mines, Silobela driving a white Mazda Familiar.

They decided to take a rest at Truckers Inn, Kwekwe where they were approached by three unknown suspects.

The suspects pretended as if they needed assistance from the complainants to mend their punctured tyre. Suddenly one of the suspects started assaulting Kidson with fists on the face, falsely accusing him and demanding payment for a service.

The second suspect drew out a knife from his pocket and threatened to kill the complainants. Kidson managed to escape leaving Edson and the three suspects.

The suspects continued to assault Edson with fists all over the body, searched him and took US$2 000 cash from his pockets.

The suspects then got into their Subaru vehicle registration number ADR 2970 and sped off towards Kwekwe CBD leaving Edson at the scene.

Kidson later came back and reported the case at Kwekwe Central police.   

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko is appealing for information regarding the suspects whereabouts.

“Both complainants did not sustain visible injuries. We appeal for information that may assist in the arrest of the culprits and members of the public are welcome to approach any police station.” he added.
