Mberengwa– Jame West FC from Mberengwa, a newcomer to the local football scene, is making waves in its debut season by consistently winning its fixtures and positioning itself for a potential promotion to Division 1 by the end of the current season.
The Yellow Metal Boys, as they are affectionately known, swept aside any chances for Midlands FC to score during their match on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Yellow Machine ground in Yorks, Mberengwa.
The home team secured a 2-0 victory, building on their 1-0 win over Midlands FC in the first half of the season.
Jame West FC, the current league leaders, are determined to move up the ranks and not remain in Division 2.
Saddiq Madzipa, the club’s director, expressed the team’s ambition to reach the Premier League, but acknowledged that funding will be a significant challenge if they fail to find a sponsor.
“Our team is strong enough to go forward. We only need a few touch-ups and grooming, as we are learning as well, but I have faith that we are going far to raise the Mberengwa flag high,” Madzipa said.
“We are facing a great challenge in funding and sponsorship. The team is doing well, and we are appealing to anyone who sees the potential of the team to come forward and help it. The players are making us proud, but they need motivation and some allowances, as some of them already have small families,” he added.
Jame West FC coach Ashel Gutu expressed his delight with the turnout of supporters and Midlands FC’s commitment to fulfilling the fixture, stating that the Yellow Metal Boys do not take pride in winning with walkovers.
“Supporters were happy when they saw Midlands FC’s bus coming down to our home ground, as it has been a long time since we had a home game after Somabhula didn’t turn out for the game two weeks ago,” Gutu said, adding that the ground was packed despite the chilly weather.
Gutu praised the tactical changes he made during the game, which allowed his team to secure the victory.
Jame West FC’s next challenge will be against All Stars FC, a team with more experience in Division 2.
With supporters being encouraged to continue rallying behind the team until the last fixture.
Meanwhile, the yellow metal coach has expressed his gratitude to Simbarashe Sibanda, a member of the York business community and a diehard fan of Jame West FC, who had made a donation to the players.
