Giant steel company, DISCO fails Manhize villagers

As the government and Dinson, a Chinese mining giant, misses the July 2024 target to relocate close to 100 families who have lost land arbitrarily to Dinson mining developments in Manhize, CRD reflects on the plight of the affected community of Manhize in a 12.29 minutes short documentary.

These families are set to miss another farming season because relocation destination has not been completed.

On 14 June 2024 Muchenjere villagers staged a demonstration against degrading treatment by Dinson ranging from arbitrary seizure of farming land without compensation, hunger and unbearable dust pollution.  Before the demonstration, villagers had written a letter to the relevant government ministries seeking their intervention but there was no response.  After the demonstration, state security operatives descended on the villagers and made death threats to their representatives for demanding their rights.

Faced with growing threats to their lives by state security operatives some community leaders went into hiding. The community now lives in fear and is constantly monitored by central intelligence officers operating from Dinson Mine.
