MIDWEEEK REPORTER

MASVINGO-Do you believe in mysteries? If your answer is yes, here is one.

A baby boy who was born on May 19 1994 and stolen two weeks later has been reunited with his biological parents 30 years later thanks to a Mwazha spiritual leader.

The spiritual leader guided them to find their loved one who has been missing for 30 years.

Sources from a Kadoma a WhatsApp group told The Midweek Watch that the boy was stolen in 1994 at Mucheke bus rank after the mother had gone to bath in one of the toilets at the terminus where she had slept over night.

The mother, Sarah Zhou (48) left the baby boy with her mother in law (now late) as she wanted to take a bath. The mother in law became worried by the long time she had taken bathing and she followed her leaving the baby with a woman, Simangaliso Rufu whom they had shared blankets overnight at the bus rank.

The woman quickly vanished with the baby into thin air and when the two returned they only found blankets only.

Rufu has since been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

When asked for her comment she said she stole the baby after seeing an opportunity to please her husband after having a miscarriage.

She added that she had no intention to steal the baby but when the two left her she quickly decided not to proceed to Birchenough where she was going to collect her groceries and made a U-turn, but when her husband came back from a tour of duty he did not accept the baby hence the boy grew up in Masasa, Chivhu where the woman comes from.

The mother in law and Zhou went to Chikato Police Station and made a report of a missing child.

They proceeded with their journey to Chivamba Village under Chief Bota in Zaka after a thorough search with the help of the police yielded nothing.

The family concluded that their child has been taken by ritualists and resigned to fate and continued with their life.

Masvingo Province police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said he is not aware of the matter.

The close source said the couple went on to have another boy child whom they went on to name Matthew in remembrance of their stolen first born baby.

The father of the stolen baby is Clever Bwazo from Chivamba Village and they named their second born Ronald Matthew Bwazo who is playing a leading role to bring to conclusion the mysterious matter.

A Mwazha prophet in Zaka recently told the family that their missing child was alive and in Chivhu.

They started looking for him and were told that the person they were looking for was now staying at Empress turn off in Kadoma and the ‘mother’ (Simangaliso Rufu) is a gold miner.

They also used social media like Facebook to also look for him.

They went to Empress and they found out that Matthew Bwazo had been renamed Tinashe James Ncube and date of birth was changed to 28 May 1994.

They arranged for DNA tests which were done in Gweru at Expedite laboratory and they came out positive.

A report was made at Chikato Police station on September 23 this year leading to the arrest of Rufu on Tuesday (24/9/24).

Ncube is now married with four children and he is employed as a cross border truck driver and preparations are underway to officially reunite him with his actual family.

A social commentator told The Midweek Watch that while it is given that Rufu kidnapped the boy and this is a serious offence which invites a custodial sentence, considering the time lapse and that she managed to take good care of him until he grew up until he has his own family they should opt for an out of court settlement.

She added that chances are high that she had developed a strong bond with the boy and for her to get a custodial sentence may end up traumatizing both of them.
