MASVINGO-St Joseph Parish choir from Beitbridge has won the Roman Catholic Masvingo Diocese choir competitions for the second time on the bounce, beating 31 other contestants.
The choral competitions were held at Silveira Mission in Bikita last week on Saturday where hundreds of parishioners converged to witness the children of God praising the Almighty through song.
The choir beat 31 other choirs drawn from Masvingo to clinch the first place.
For their outstanding performance, the St Joseph choir walked away with a certificate, a trophy and monetary prize, while Emmanuel Charumbira from St Don Bosco Parish who was voted the best choir conductor received a certificate and a monetary prize.
St Don Bosco choir came second, St Peter and Paul and St Theresa Rujeko came out in the third position, Bondolfi Teachers College and Silveira Mission both were on the fifth position, St Michaels Gutu settled for number seven, Good Shepherd came eighth, Bondolfi Mission was number nine and Gokomere Mission were adjudged the tenth best choir.
The competition song was titled ‘Mufananidzo wezviyo nesawi’ composed by Richard Tonganai(76) who is under St Joseph guild.
Tonganai who has composed 22 catholic songs all his life said that the competition song just gave comparison of how God created people in their different ways and blending in their way of life.
“This song just wanted to show that God created us and spread us across the world in our different formalities, whether poor or rich God is the ultimate creator,” said Tonganai.
