Kwekwe- The Police has confirmed the kidnapping of a 7-day-old infant girl from her mother outside the Kwekwe District Hospital yesterday (December 4, 2024).
According to the police report, the infant’s mother, 22-year-old Rumbidzai Gunhu of Mbizo, Kwekwe, had taken her newborn daughter to the hospital for a postnatal care check up.
After the appointment, Gunhu was approached by an unknown female adult who offered to accompany her and help carry the baby home.
On the way, the woman gave Gunhu money, ZIG20-00, and asked her to go buy freezits while she waited with the baby.
When Gunhu returned a few minutes later, the woman and the infant were gone.
Gunhu searched the area but was unable to locate the woman or her baby.
She then reported the incident to the police, who are now appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the kidnapper and the recovery of the infant.
“We are appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the woman and recovery of the baby to alert any nearest Police,” said Midlands Province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
