Gweru Mayor distributes Cheer Fund proceeds

Nearly 300 underprivileged residents have benefited from Gweru Mayor’s cheer fund proceeds on Thursday.

The Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund is a generous initiative aimed at bringing joy and relief to the elderly and vulnerable in the community during the festive season.

During the hand over ceremony, Gweru Mayor Martin Chivhoko also recognized the individuals and institutions that supported and contributed to the Mayor’s Cheer Fund’s success.

The Midweek Watch which reported extensively on the Cheer Fund since its launch and other Council stories was also honored with a certificate for its dedication to keep the residents informed

The following were also recognised River Valley Group, The Sun newspaper, 98.4 FM, ZBC, YA FM, Gundu Dube and Pamacheche Legal Practitioners, the Chinese owned mining companies Jinyi Investments and JinAn Group.

Chivhoko also paid tribute to Chronicle Midlands Bureau Chief Patrick Chitumba and Tinashe Chikwata for their exceptional kindness in assisting a woman in labor.

He said the Mayor’s Cheer Fund has raised US$13,043.26, ZwG73 946.85 in cash and groceries worth US$7,000.00. 

The certificate that was awarded to The Midweek Watch for its wide coverage of the City Council.

“Furthermore, we have received donations of five wheelchairs, three school fees vouchers, clothes, and sanitary wear. We have also received stationery worth $3,000.

“These donations have benefited eight local institutions and 275 individuals in Gweru,” said Mayor Chivhoko.

The Mayor urged the beneficiaries not to sell or exchange the items they received, as the donations are intended to provide relief and comfort to them.

He expressed his gratitude to the generous companies and individuals who contributed to the success of the initiative.
