Consul-General at the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa Eria Phiri early this week visited scenes where 15 Zimbabweans perished in two separate bus accidents in Limpopo province and revealed government’s plan to repatriate the bodies back home.
Phiri also visited hospitals where the injured are being treated, offering them support and assistance.
“Efforts are underway to repatriate the 15 bodies to Zimbabwe, ensuring that the deceased are returned to their homeland for burial.” Phiri said
“We are doing everything possible to support the families of the deceased and the injured,” he said.
The two tragic accidents occurred on Tuesday last week, when a Mzansi Express bus traveling from Bulawayo overturned near Makhado town, resulting in the loss of 10 lives.
A total of 35 people were injured, with 10 admitted at Mokopane Hospital and 24 at Voortrekker Hospital.
While a Tamuka Coaches bus carrying 58 passengers and four crew members was involved in an accident 8 km before the Mokopane tollgate, five people, including the driver, perished on the spot.
