Go Ye Well Simbarashe Rushwaya
Martin Muleya
It is one of life’s laws that man born out of a woman shall indeed leave this earthly journey.
Our dear departed comrade Simbarashe Rushwaya achieved a lot during his days at Daily News including fame and fortune as a journalist.
Up to this day Simba still had a lot to achieve in his chosen career as a Senior Reporter at The Manica Post. His stories no doubt showed potential and promise and naturally many anticipated that one day he would become an Editor.
Alas, this was not to be!
The former Daily News reporter breathed his last at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on August 14 2024 after battling with cancer of the colony
His heart dripped with love, care, honour, gentleness for all who were privileged to have known and interacted with him in this earthly journey and none ever thought that such a great talent would be so rudely, wickedly and painfully terminated by the cold hands of death.
I personally admired his courage, humility, forthrightness and simplicity. Simba was exceptional in everything he did, and to his credit he appreciated the exceptional in others as well. He had a huge heart and warmth to his spirit that was both embracing and endearing.
Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) first vice president, Ray Bande described Rushwaya as a vastly talented journalist. Bande reiterated while they were aware of his failing health, being admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals they all thought he was now on recovery path.
“It is with great sadness that we have lost such a talented senior journalist in Simba Rushwaya. He was passionate about his profession, for whom it was a calling.
“We are devastated by his demise given that we thought he was on his recovery path. He will be dearly missed. Rushawaya worked for different media houses, and as a senior scribe, he provided guidance to juniors in the profession.
“After taking a sabbatical from the trenches of journalism, at the time of his death, he had been resuscitating his career with The Manica Post,” said ZUJ first vice president
As the media fraternity we are deeply saddened at the news of his passing on. His absence is already being deeply felt in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and work with him
We shall always miss you Simbarashe Rushwaya!
Death is so cruel! There is so much pain!
I hope the younger generation may learn something as we celebrate the life of an exceptionally talented journalist although we have the pain of accepting that we can no longer see and talk to him like we did. He was a hard worker to the end and humble. Today we thank him for the role he played, guidance and being a brother to many of us.
My heart is so full of countless thoughts that I wish to write more but I will sum it up in one word again regarding one word that deeply and passionately endears my thoughts at this moment of Simbarashe Rushwaya; Humility.
He lived it. Humility like love, never dies.
With deepest respect, sympathy and love rest in eternal peace Simbarashe!
