 Egyptians convicted for overstaying

MASVINGO CITY-Two Egyptians Amar Riyadh Mohammed Ismael (31) and Aymen Nabeel Mohammed Al-Qattan (32) have appeared in court for contravening Immigration Act Chapter 4:02.

They were arrested on 18th of May around 0800hrs at House number 7010 Vunga Street, Target Kopje, Masvingo.

The two were said to have been selling Egyptian pots in Masvingo to earn money but they failed to raise the required amount to go back home.

The Egyptians were driving in convoy and were stopped at a Roadblock site 10km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge road Masvingo.

Ismael and Qattan were requested to produce their passports and failed to do so.

The two accused were arrested by the Police and were referred to the Department of Immigration Masvingo.

They were issued with warrants of detention by officers from the Department of Immigration.

However, on the 20th of May the accused then produced their passports and the Police discovered that their entry had expired on 26 March.

They appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Linnet Mudzingo who fined them USD$120 each which was paid by their friend, who was not identified.
