MUTARE-Dapuraunanzva Dance Ensemble took top honours at the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival Manicaland provincial finals held at Mandel Leisure Centre in Watsomba.

The Ensemble, made up of dedicated performers, musicians and cultural practitioners passionate about preserving Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage, edged out nine other groups in a highly competitive contest, walking away $2500 richer.

This was not Dapuraunanzva’s first appearance at the provincial finals. The group has been participating in the competition since 2000 and says the festival has played a significant role in its growth. Four years ago they were crowned national champions, and they finished as Second Runners-Up in 2024.

Dapuraunanzva leader Keaven Simomondo said the team is now focused on preparing for the national finals and will give their very best performance.

“We are approaching the competition with confidence, discipline and humility while also looking forward to learning from other talented groups from across the country. Our ultimate goal is to bring the national title back to Manicaland.

“We promise to represent Manicaland with pride, dignity and excellence at national finals,” he said in an interview.

He added that the group will showcase the richness of African culture and make Manicaland province proud.

The provincial finals brought together 10 talented groups from across the province. Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services’ (ZPCS) traditional dance outfit Mansa came second and walked away $1 500 richer, while Chihomva Dance Group settled for the third position clinching $1 000 as cash prize.

The high standard of performances demonstrated the vibrancy of traditional arts in Manicaland.

Simomondo also commended the organisers and sponsors of the festival.

“We would like to commend the organizers and sponsors of the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival for their continued commitment to preserving Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage. The festival provides an important platform for artists to showcase their talents, promote cultural exchange, creates opportunities for communities to celebrate their traditions and inspire younger generations to appreciate and preserve our cultural identity,” he added.
