GWERU-A senior Police officer in the Midlands Province has said  they have put in place strong and effective internal mechanisms to curb corruption in the rank file of the organisation and those found on the wrong side of the law will be dealt with without fear or favour.

Assistant Commissioner Tambudzai Joyleen Mazambani responsible for administration said this during the Anti-corruption Day celebrations in Gweru last Saturday.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police has a strong resolve to fight corruption both within and outside the organization. We publicly acknowledge that we have on many occasions received reports of corruption by our members.

“The reports are thoroughly investigated and where it is proved, errant members will be tried according to the dictates of the law,” said Ass Comm Mazambani.

She said a number of corrupt officers were fired from the police service.

Ass Comm Mazambani stressed the need for members of the public to avail evidence for the cases to be effectively prosecuted in the courts.

She however warned members of the public against aiding corrupt activities.

“The general public who might be involved in corruption of whatever nature in their spheres of life are given stern warning to stop it and live a straight forward life,” said Ass Comm Mazambani adding that the long arm of the law will catch up with offenders and will be severely punished.

Ass Comm Mazambani said the ZRP guarantees quality and professional investigations in all cases to ensure satisfactory outcomes from the courts.

According to Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission (ZACC), 707 corruption reports were received this year, with 369 arrests and a total of 230 dockets were referred to the National Prosecuting Authority.
