CHIWUNDURA – In a bizarre incident that left Rugare villagers under Chief Chiwundura in shock, Terrence Solomon (26) gruesomely murdered a 57 year old man and burnt his body in the field.
Solomon struck Samson Mpofu of Dinhira Village with a log on the head, accusing him of being a trouble maker in the community.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed Solomon’s arrest, adding that he will appear in court facing murder charges.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 11pm.
Insp Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that Mpofu and Solomon were drinking beer at Gunde Business Centre when the misunderstanding ensued.
“It is alleged that Mpofu left the business Centre heading for his home and Solomon followed him while armed with a log.
“He caught up with himnear his field, struck him with the log at the back of the head and Mpofu died on the spot. Solomon then burnt the body,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said Mpofu’s body was found lying in the field by a passerby the following morning and the matter was reported to Muchakata ZRP Post.
The deceased’s body was then taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post mortem.
