Chief Hwenje revels in campaign song success

-crashes into Radio Zimbabwe top chats

ZVISHAVANE – With award winning gospel artist Admire Nago out of Zvishavane, Chief Hwenje has taken over the mantle in the small mining town by gate crashing in the prestigious Radio Zimbabwe top 50.

His song featuring Shantel Sithole titled Mai Welly made it not only into the top 50 but top 10 as it got position nine which was accompanied by a USD $200 prize money.

Hwenje had his own brand dubbed Hwenje Music which with songs like Mabvaru, Chitank cherudo taking centre stage.

With the appointment of Mnangagwa as the President of Zimbabwe in 2017 his music took a paradigm shift as he clearly showed support for him with songs like ED Pfee during the 2018 harmonized elections which saw him competing with Mukudzei Mukombe aka Jah Prayzah with his hit song Mdara achauya.

2023 was no different as the two were at it again with Hwenje penning songs like Mai Welly and Jah Prayzah with Chiremerera and the two were even called to participate at the President Mnangagwa’s second term inauguration.

Chief Hwenje’s song got position nine while that of Jah Prayzah got position four missing out to the eventual winner of upcoming sungura ace, Tindo Ngwazi with his song Musatipedzera Nguva.

Speaking to The Midweek Watch, Hwenje said he is excited with the accolade considering the fact that they are still rising and in 2024 he promised to move a step further.

“l really appreciate those who voted considering the fact that the song was only three months old it means our fanbase is growing. In 2024 we will continue producing more and more songs targeting the top spot”, he said.
