Bullion Group hosts anti-drug tourney for Zaka schools

ZAKA – In an effort to combat the scourge of drug and substance abuse among the youth, Bullion Group organized a sports tournament at St. Anthony’s High School last Friday.

The event, which attracted secondary schools across Zaka district, aimed to provide a productive outlet for young people and discourage them from engaging in harmful behaviors.

Masvingo Province Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr. Admore Pazvakavambwa, commended Bullion Group for taking the initiative to host the tournament.

He emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities in keeping youth occupied and away from abusing drugs and substances.

“Organizing professionally run tournaments help in keeping the youths occupied and away from abusing drugs,” Dr. Pazvakavambwa said.

“It is my hope and belief that this sports tournament will change the face of Zaka district and the country at large as we fight the scourge.”

The tournament was In line with the government’s efforts to address the nationwide problem of drug and substance abuse.

Dr. Pazvakavambwa highlighted the province’s comprehensive strategies, which include educational awareness programs, counseling services, and partnerships with community organizations.

Bullion Group CEO Persistence Gwanyanya who is also RBZ monetary policy committee board member said the company is anchoring its fight against drugs and substance abuse through sports and entrepreneurship among young people in Zaka district.

He highlighted the need to address the root causes of drug abuse, such as redundancy and peer pressure among others.

“As Bullion Group, our aim is to keep the youth busy. We have organized a tournament here in Zaka to amplify the message as we walk towards a free drug and substance abuse society,” Gwanyanya said.

In addition to the tournament, Bullion Group also donated a Starlink kit and thermometers to St. Anthony’s High School as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The tournament saw Mutimwi High School emerge as the winner in the Under 15 boys soccer category, taking home a prize money of $500, 18 pairs of boots, and a trophy.

Mutonhori came second, earning themselves $300 cash, 18 pairs of boots, and a shield.

Dzoro and Panganai High Schools were awarded $200 each for their third and fourth-place finishes, respectively.

In the netball competition, St. Joseph High School claimed the top spot, pocketing $500, while Matara High School came in second and received $300.

Chitonhora and Chinorumba High Schools were awarded $200 for their third and fourth-place finishes.
