Boxer slain in mine dispute

ZAKA-Prominent retired boxer Peterson Machinjike was knifed to death at Midwaters Mine in Zaka over gold ore.

  Machinjike, was allegedly stabbed with an okapi knife to death by Jacob Sigubhu, in a dispute over gold ore.

Machinjike (41), a resident of Village Manga Mazare under Chief Gutu, met his untimely demise on August 26 at midnight. He was stabbed once in the pelvic joint with an okapi knife and bled profusely, dying on the spot.

The incident occurred when Machinjike and Davison Mangare (57), a mine employee, confronted Sigubhu not to stand near gold ore which was ready for milling. Sigubhu was enraged the order, leading to the fatal attack.

Machinjike’s body was ferried to Ndanga Hospital. He was a professional boxer and his boxing career spanned from 2018 to 2021.

“Sigubhu remains at large, and the police has since launched a manhunt for the accused,” said Masvingo province deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu

As the investigation unfolds, the community mourns the loss of a talented boxer, whose life was cut short by senseless violence.

Patinyu urged the public to desist from violence when solving differences.
