MURRA slams ZEDTC for excessive load shedding

MASVINGO – The Masvingo United Residents and Ratepayers Alliance (MURRA) has raised concerns over incessant and unscheduled power cuts in the city.
In a strongly worded letter to the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) regional manager, Jacqueline Hlatshwayo, MURRA chairperson Thomas Mbetu expressed deep frustration over the excessive load shedding in Masvingo, which he said is unproductive.
MURRA added that despite concerted efforts to engage with the power utility, they are not receiving satisfactory reasons for the disproportionate load shedding in Masvingo.
MURRA director Anoziva Muguti noted that they have evidence of more favorable load shedding schedules in other towns, like Gweru, Mashava and Zishavane further fueling their frustration.
Muguti argued that Masvingo is bearing the brunt of power outages, severely impacting industries, water supply, and daily life.
He said the frequent and prolonged power outages have resulted in industries operating at limited capacities, erratic water supply, and residents struggling to cope with the situation.
MURRA implored the power utility to publish a scheduled load shedding, invest in infrastructure upgrades to improve power supply reliability and capacity.
They also urged ZETDC to provide timely communication, updates on load shedding schedules, and planned maintenance or upgrades.
