Bishop Mupa makes sweeping changes to Diocese leadership

-elevates Fr Jongwe to Vicar General


MASVINGO – Roman Catholic Church Masvingo Dioceses Bishop, The Right Rev Bishop Raymond Mupandasekwa has made sweeping changes and transfers, elevating veteran administrator, Rev Fr Emmanuel Jongwe to the post of Vicar General.

 The changes were made in an announcement made last Tuesday by the Bishop through a communique in the hands o The Midweek Watch.

Fr Jongwe who was the financial administrator of the Diocese and he takes over from Fr Samson Mutsvanga who remains the Education Secretary for Masvingo Diocese and Priest in Charge at St Patrick Gokomere Mission .

Fr Jongwe will also be the Priest in Charge of Nerupiri Parish.

Masvingo Diocese has been going through changes since the appointment of Rev Bishop Mupandasekwa last year and the recent reshuffles are his first major move.

According to a circular directed to priests, brothers, sisters and Diocesans, Pastoral Council Executive, Right Rev Bishop Mupandasekwa said the appointments and transfers are with effect from 16 February 2024.

“These appointments, assignments and transfers take effect from the 16th of February, 2024 and with sentiments of deep appreciation for your cooperation and best prayerful wishes, I remain yours devotedly to Jesus Christ”, said Bishop Mupandasekwa.

Fr Jongwe is an administrator of repute who holds a Diploma in Philosophy, Diploma in Theology, Diploma in Religious Studies, Bcom Management Studies majoring in Finance, Master of Science in Business Psychology, post graduate Diploma in Higher and Tertiary Education and currently studying PHD in Economics and Management Studies.

Other major appointment announced include Rev Fr Oscar Chagweda who has been appointed Chancellor of Masvingo Diocese as well as Rector of Bondolfi Teachers College.

Rev Fr David Munhamo has been appointed financial administrator of Masvingo Diocese as well as Assistant Priest of St Theresa of Avila Rujeko Parish.

 Rev Fr Cuthbert Mavedzenge has been appointed Bishop’s Secretary as well as Priest in Charge of St Joseph’s Nemamwa Parish.

Rev Fr Patrick Marimazhira has been appointed Pastoral Vicar of Masvingo Diocese, while Rev F Vitalis Gotami has been appointed Judicial Vicar of Masvingo Diocese.

Rev Fr Isaac Muzenda has been appointed Social Communication Coordinator as well as Assistant Priest of Nerupiri Area.

Rev Fr Courage Pesanayi has been appointed Vocations Director of Masvingo Diocese and Rev Fr Solomon Mbengo has been appointed Diocesans, Chaplain of Tertiary Institutions in Masvingo Diocese.

 Rev Fr Richard Pundo has been appointed Priest in Charge of St Nicholas Mukaro Mission and Rev Fr Joseph Tsvangirai has been appointed Priest in Charge of St Peter and Paul Bondolfi Mission.

 Rev Fr Mutsvanga told The Midweek Watch that as the Education Secretary he was diligently going to look much into the affairs of all schools that are in the Diocese so that they produce excellent results in their yearly public examinations.

“I will continue working with all the schools in the Diocese and give a competitive environment so that we continue to produce excellent results,” said Rev Fr Mutsvanga.
