Basic vehicle checks…

Date:

Proper tire maintenance is crucial for vehicle safety and performance.

Here are some basic tips on tire maintenance that everyone should know.

1. Check tire pressure regularly. Ensure that tires are inflated according to the manufacturer’s recommended kilopascals and bar. Overinflated or underinflated tires can lead to uneven wear, poor handling, and reduced fuel efficiency.

2. Inspect tire tread depth. Regularly check the tread depth to ensure it’s not worn down. The “coin test” is a simple way to do this, that is insert a coin into the tire tread with a 2 zig  coin with the Zimbabwean bird’s head facing down; if you can see the  chevron pattern of  the bird , it’s time to replace your tires.

3. Rotate tires every 5,000-8,000 km, tire rotation ensures even wear, which helps extend tire life and maintains optimal performance.

4. Check wheel alignment. Misaligned wheels can cause uneven tire wear and impact vehicle handling.

5. Inspect tires for damage: Regularly check tires for any visible damage, such as cuts, bulges, or exposed steel belts.

6. Maintain proper tire balance: Unbalanced tires can cause vibrations, leading to uneven wear and reduced handling.

Store spare tires properly:

7. Ensure your spare tire is in good condition and always store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

By following these basic tire maintenance tips, you can help extend your tire life, improve vehicle performance, and ensure safer driving.
