MASVINGO-City of Masvingo councillors are now fed up with the name Runyararo which is appearing on most of the council new projects.

The councilors, in the last full council meeting resolved that the naming of a new clinic, school and swimming pool in Runyararo suburb be deferred to allow members to make suggestions for different names.
“The Committee was of the view that Council should find a different name and avoid naming the School after a residential suburb in which the school would be sited,” read part of the minutes.
The committee further resolved that councillors should submit proposed names for consideration at the next meeting where a final decision on the school’s name is expected to be made.
The committee agreed that the naming process should be deferred to allow members to submit alternative suggestions to the office of the Director of Housing and Social Services.
Other institutions named after Runyararo are Runyararo Primary, Runyararo North West Clinic, Runyararo Swimming Pool, Runyararo Clinic, RCZ Runyararo Congregation, and Runyararo Adventist Primary.
According to the Health, Housing and Environmental Services Committee minutes of the last full council meeting held on May 29, 2026, members considered a report from the Director of Housing and Social Services regarding the establishment of a secondary school on Stand Number 10931 near Runyararo Clinic.
The proposed school will be situated on a 5.56-hectare site and an initial recommendation had suggested that it be named Runyararo Secondary School.
However, committee members were not in favour of the proposed name, arguing that Council should avoid naming the school after the residential suburb where it will be located.
According to the minutes, members resolved to recommend that Council proceed with the establishment of the secondary school on Stand Number 10931 in Runyararo Suburb near Runyararo Clinic while putting the naming of the institution in abeyance.
The planned school is expected to improve access to secondary education for learners in Runyararo and surrounding areas as the suburb continues to grow.
The committee comprises of councillors Maxwell Madhuna as chairman, Sengerayi Manyanga, Deputy Mayor Alderman Daniel Mberikunashe, Sheron Marombedze, Simbarashe Shonhiwa, Alaica Time, and Alderman Richard Musekiwa.
