MWENEZI- A 32-year-old man from Mwenezi is on the run after allegedly stabbing his friend during a dispute over childhood memories at Matibi Business Centre on Sunday.
Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway to locate the suspect, who remains at large.
“We urge members of the public to preserve peace and resolve disputes amicably. Issues of this nature should never escalate to the extent of people attempting to take each other’s lives,” said Dhewa.
The circumstances are that on June 08, Mandlaenkosi Chikwenhure (27) and Aron Ndoro (32), both of Mafirenyika Village under Chief Mawarire in Mwenezi District, were drinking beer at a local bar at Matibi Business Centre.
The two friends reportedly began arguing over incidents from their childhood, specifically over who used to overpower the other during their younger years.
The disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation inside the bar.
Ndoro allegedly started wrestling with Chikwenhure before dragging him outside the premises where he then produced an Okapi knife and stabbed Chikwenhure once in the back before fleeing from the scene.
The matter was reported to the nearest police station, and the complainant was rushed to Matibi Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
He is reported to be in a stable condition.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to report to their nearest police station.
