Mutare-A Chikanga 1 woman shocked residents when she allegedly ‘ate’ $7 600 entrusted to her by her husband for safe keeping.
There was drama as Misheck Walter Mukono (27) was left in a state of shock and awe after his better half, Elizabeth Pembedza (32) whom he trusted with thousands of dollars… only for the money to vanish like morning mist!
Elizabeth Pembedza (32) is now in hot water after she appeared in court facing allegations of turning US$7,600 into her personal “enjoyment fund.” Her husband, Misheck Walter Mukono (27), reportedly handed over the cash for safekeeping between February and December 2025 believing his money was in safe hands. But what followed has left tongues wagging across Chikanga 1.
Instead of guarding the cash, Pembedza allegedly made it disappear without a trace. No explanation, no leftovers just silence and shock. Sources close to the matter say the money was never recovered, leaving Mukono counting losses and questioning everything, including love itself.
The couple, who both reside in Chikanga 1, Mutare, have now taken their private drama straight to the courtroom, where the State insists the accused acted unlawfully. The matter was heard before magistrate Honest Musiiwa, with Brighton Chiromo appearing for the State.
In a dramatic twist, the court slapped Pembedza with a 10 month prison sentence, wholly suspended on condition that she restitute the full US$7,600 to the complainant. This means if she fails to pay back every cent, she will be sent straight behind bars to serve the full 10 months—a ticking clock now hanging over her head.
