Masvingo-Southern Rocks Cricket Club are on the verge of securing another major title as they prepare to face Mega Market Mountaineers in the Pro50 Championship final on Saturday April 11 at Masvingo Sports Club, following their Logan Cup triumph last month in Harare.

Speaking to The Midweek Watch, head coach Njabulo Ncube expressed confidence in his team’s journey and preparations leading up to the final.
“We have worked hard to build a culture of discipline, high performance and resilience. Seeing our squad execute our plans under pressure throughout the season has been incredibly rewarding,” said Ncube.
“We have faced various challenges but the team’s ability to adapt and win in different conditions is what has brought us to this decisive moment.”
Ncube acknowledged the strength of their opponents, noting his past ties with the Mountaineers.
“Having both played for and coached the Mountaineers and with several of our current players being former Mountaineers, we understand their experience. We respect them but our focus is on our own processes and executing our game plan under pressure.”
Team captain Roy Kaia echoed similar sentiments, highlighting unity and balance within the squad.
“Our team is well balanced with a mix of young and experienced players. We have gelled well and that has helped us win games together,” said Kaia.
“We are well prepared and we are focusing on bringing our best performance on the day.”
Kaia emphasized the importance of collective effort across all departments.
“Everyone who takes the field has a role to play. Whether it’s batting, bowling or fielding, it will take a full team performance to win the final.”
Southern Rocks Cricket Club will also be banking on strong home support.
“Supporters will play a big part. We encourage them to come in numbers and support the home team as we aim to celebrate together,” Kaia added.
The final follows the Pro50 Championship format, a one-day competition where each team is allocated 50 overs with the side scoring the most runs emerging victorious.
Victory on Saturday would mark a remarkable achievement for Southern Rocks, who recently defeated the Mashonaland Eagles to lift the Logan Cup on March 30.
Coach Ncube believes another trophy would cement the team’s growing legacy.
“Winning the Pro50 Championship would validate the hard work put in by the players and administration. It would also inspire the next generation and confirm Southern Rocks as a powerhouse in Zimbabwean cricket.”
With momentum on their side and home advantage at play, Southern Rocks will be aiming to complete a memorable season with a second major title.
