7 nabbed for festive season murder cases

GWERU-Police in the Midlands Province have arrested seven suspects linked to spate of murder cases reported during the Christmas holidays.

Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the alleged killers are aged between 18 and 28 years old.

The seven are suspected to have committed murder between the 25th and 27th  of December, 2023.

“The first suspect Tafadzwa Tendereki (20) was arrested two days after allegedly stabbing Jackson Kapeni (20) with a knife to death, at Empress Mine Business Centre around 2000 hours on the Christmas day. After having a dispute over a sex worker,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said Tendereki was arrested after having sought hibernation at Battlefields where his father handed him over to the police.

Insp Mahoko said the four suspects, Kizito Mpofu (23) of Mbizo,  Luke Javhure Garamukana (21) of Alarm 2 Compound, Luckson Ngoni (23) and Munashe Chitondo (18) of Mbizo, Kwekwe were nabbed after allegedly stabbing Clive Madhlolo (26) of Alarm 2 Compound, with a sharp object.

He said the suspects were arrested on December 27, 2023 after police reacted swiftly following a tip off from members of the public.

Insp Mahoko added that Brian Chivanga of Woodlands, Gweru and John Chirefu (25) of Ironsides, Shurugwi were apprehended for allegedly killing Blessed Jakalasi (28) of Woodlands, Gweru using a hammer.

He said at around 4pm, on the 27 December 2023,  Chivanga and Chirefu grabbed Jakalasi whom they found operating as a conductor along Woodlands – Gweru Town route.

They then demanded unspecified amount of money owed by the now deceased.

“The driver tried to intervene but to no avail and he left.

“After a while, Jakalasi was found lying lifeless and he was rushed to Gweru General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” added Mahoko.

Meanwhile, Police paid tribute to members of the public for cooperating with the law enforcement agency in the province.
