3 drug peddlers nabbed in Gokwe

GWERU-Three notorious drug peddlers have been arrested and arraigned before the courts for cultivating and possession of large amounts of dagga in Kuruwa Village under Chief Nemangwe, Gokwe South.

Police in Charge of Operations, Assistant Commissioner Martin Matambo confirmed the development.

Asscom Matambo said Brian Kuruwa (36), Talkmore Muzondiwa (30), and Shylet Magigani (32) all of the same village have since appeared before a Gokwe Magistrate and sentenced to a combined prison term of nine years.

Kuruwa was sentenced to four years in prison while a year was suspended for good behavior, Muzondiwa jailed to two years with eight months set aside, while Magigani was slapped with an effective three year jail sentence.

Asscom Matambo told The Midweek Watch that on July 3, the police received a tip off from the residents in the village that there are some cultivation of dagga along Svisvi river banks.

On the same night at around 10pm, the police reacted to the informants, teamed up and found Kuruwa watering a plantation of dagga leading to his arrest and recovery of 67 plants at his home.

He said further investigations led to the arrest of Muzondiwa at her residence and the recovery of a 50 kg sack of dried ready to consume dagga.

Additionally, Magigani who had three 40 kg bags of dagga hidden in her bedroom was also nabbed during the police operation.

Asscom Matambo said in total police busted a contraband of 6 500 live dagga plants and 170kg of dried dagga.
