Gokwe- A fatal Road Traffic accident claimed two lives on the spot and nine others escaped with varying injuries yesterday (30 July 2023) at around 6pm along Kwekwe-Gokwe Road.
A Nissan Caravan with seven passengers on board and a haulage truck pulling a trailer were involved in the accident while going to Gokwe.
Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmaneul Mahoko urged members of the public to maintain caution on roads.
“We urge members of the public to always maintain a high degree of caution when on the road,” he added.
Circumstances are that the Nissan Caravan tried to overtake the haulage truck upon reaching the 55 km peg but did not leave enough space thereby hitting it with its left front part.
The driver of the Nissan was thrown out of the vehicle onto the tarmac whilst the vehicle veered off the road and hit two pedestrians who were walking along the road.
The Nissan over-turned once before landing on its wheels.
The driver of the Nissan Caravan and one of the pedestrians died on the spot whilst seven passengers from the same vehicle were injured.
The injured and the dead bodies were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital.
