HARARE-In a disturbing incident of politically motivated violence, two senior members of the newly formed Zvido Zvevanhu People’s Party (ZZPP) were beaten in Highfield West Constituency for wearing their party regalia.
ZZPP secretary for mobilisation as well as shadow MP for Highfield West Constituency, Kudzie Masaya confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch on Saturday last week.
“Our members were putting on their T-Shirts while walking around the Constituency and some alleged rogue Zanu PF members approached them and started beating them up and they went on to burn their T-Shirts as well.
“They told them that, this was a Zanu PF territory and they should not move around putting on opposition party T-Shirts or they face death,” said Masaya.
One of the victims only identified as Mr. Smith sustained head and back injuries and lost cash amounting to US$130, a cellphone, property and all the T-Shirts at his house were confiscated by the youths who claimed to be belonging to the ruling party.

The incident happens when the country is left with less than five months to go to the crunch harmonised elections where the Zimbabwe Election Support Network and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission are on record condemning political vioence.
They have been urging members of different political parties to engage in peaceful campaigning and voting in the forthcoming harmonised elections.
