A Zvishavane man (23) was on Monday left nursing wounds after two unknown robbers pounced on him and drove away with his Toyota FunCargo.
John Mlambo, a resident of Village Murambadzibwa under Chief Masunda in Zvishavane, is currently receiving medical treatment at Zvishavane Hospital.
He sustained two deep cuts on his head and has a swollen face.
The incident took place at around 8 p.m. when Mlambo was approached by two men at Chiraya Business Centre.
The suspects (still on the run) requested taxi services to Samanye Mine in the Mazvihwa area and agreed to pay Mlambo USD$15.00 for the journey.
They then instructed Mlambo to drive them along the Zvishavane-Rutenga Road.
When they reached the Gwemvurachena turn-off, one of the men asked for a recess.
Mlambo complied, pulled off the road and stopped the vehicle, as instructed by the suspects.
According to Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the other suspect, who had remained at the back seat, grabbed Mlambo by the neck and blindfolded him with a jacket.
He proceeded to tie Mlambo’s hands and legs using shoelaces, dragged him out of his vehicle and struck him on the head with stones.
They stole his Itel cellphone, USD$40.00 in cash and fled the scene in Mlambo’s silver Toyota FunCargo, with registration number AEH 1315, heading towards Rutenga, leaving the complainant lying beside the road.
The police are now appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the nearest police station.
Total value of stolen property is estimated at US $2 590-00.
