ZRP Midlands rope in business to fight crime
MARTIN MAWAYA
Gweru—In a bid to curb the alarming rise in crime during the upcoming 2024 festive season, ZRP Midlands Provincial Command has lined up a series of meetings with the business community across the province to jointly fight the scourge.
The meetings, scheduled to take place in several districts, will bring together all stakeholders, including traditional chiefs, councilors, business owners, retail managers, representatives from the mining community, money transfer agencies, the manufacturing industry, filling stations, bakeries, food and confectionery outlets, liquor establishments, hotels, parastatals, and heads of government departments.
According to the Midlands police provincial spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the goal of these meetings is to provide a platform for the business community to discuss crime issues they have encountered, share strategies to combat these crimes, and address any other concerns requiring police attention.
“This is a valuable opportunity for everyone in business to discuss and share experiences, concerns, and strategies,” said Inspector Mahoko. “Let’s seize the power of interaction; ‘for iron sharpens iron.’”
The ZRP Midlands Provincial Command will be accompanied by representatives from the Business Against Crime and Crime Liaison Committees, which are part of ongoing community policing initiatives in the vast province.
The first meeting is scheduled for Gokwe on November 26, 2024, at 9:00 AM at ZRP Gokwe. This will be followed by a meeting in Zvishavane on November 27, 2024, at 9:00 AM at ZRP Mberengwa. Gweru Urban will host its meeting on December 3, 2024, at 9:00 AM at ZRP Main Camp, while the Kwekwe meeting will take place on December 5, 2024, at 9:00 AM at Kwekwe Theatre. Gweru Rural will hold its meeting on December 12, 2024, at 9:00 AM at Insukamini Business Center in Lower Gweru.
Inspector Mahoko encouraged the business community to take advantage of these meetings to engage with the ZRP Midlands Provincial Command and contribute to enhancing security and curbing the rise in crime in the province.
