CHIREDZI-Zimuto High School from Masvingo Rural has scooped the first position at the provincial drum majorettes competition held at Chiredzi Government Primary School.
The event, which saw the participation of 14 schools from the province, was a resounding success, celebrating the empowerment of the girl child through performances.

In the primary school category, Catholic-based schools Don Bosco Primary and Gokomere Primary School from Masvingo were tied on the first place, while Victory Primary School came third.
The secondary school competitions category was dominated by Zimuto High School, who claimed the top spot.
Chibi High School came in second, followed by Mutendi High School in third place.
Mutendi High School also impressed the audience with their lively musical performance.

Zimuto High School’s drum majorettes leader, Matimba Shumba, expressed her delight with the school’s outstanding performance.
“I am very happy that we have managed to outclass other schools, and I am also very grateful to all the authorities who are supporting the girl child.
“These activities provide a platform girls to gain confidence and shine,” remarked Shumba.
Masvingo Provincial Education Director, Shylatte Mhike who was represented by Petronella Nyangwe, encouraged headmasters and mistresses to actively participate in these competitions, emphasizing the importance of empowering girls through the upcoming heritage-based education, an upgrade of the competence-based curriculum.

“Schools should take these activities seriously as they are also part of the education system. The future heritage-based education, an improvement of the competence-based curriculum, will make it possible for education to respond to the community’s needs,” said Nyangwe.
The provincial drama competition was a testament to the power of the arts in shaping young minds and promoting gender empowerment.

With the theme of empowering the girl child at its core, the competition inspired and motivated students to strive for excellence, showcasing their talent and potential of the next generation.
