GWERU-The Government has praised Zibagwe Rural District Council (RDC) for accelerating infrastructure development while urging local authorities across the country to strengthen land governance and improve service delivery to support sustainable community development.
Speaking during the commissioning of 43 motorbikes, four utility vehicles worth US$140,000 and a new administration block valued at US$27,500 at Zibagwe RDC last week, Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube said local authorities have a critical role in improving the lives of communities through efficient and accountable service delivery.

He said councils should adopt sound land management policies that discourage illegal land dealings and speculation while ensuring land is allocated for productive and planned development.
Minister Ncube also challenged local authorities to restore public confidence by enhancing accountability, transparency and good governance in the delivery of essential services.
He said priority should be given to improving roads, public lighting, environmental management, public health, housing and community services to meet the expectations of residents.
The Minister commended Zibagwe RDC for implementing projects that have improved livelihoods across the district, describing the council as a model for rural development under the Government’s devolution agenda.
Among the projects highlighted were the construction of Marivale Bridge in Milsonia, rehabilitation of 105 boreholes, drilling of 14 new boreholes, installation of 12 street lights at Zhombe Business Centre, electrification of Doniani Clinic, construction of Sivuma Clinic and the Gwesela–Bhalimasvesve classroom block, which is nearing completion.
Minister Ncube said such investments demonstrate the Second Republic’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure, enhancing public service delivery and empowering local authorities to contribute towards the country’s Vision 2030 of attaining an upper-middle-income economy.
He added that effective land administration, prudent revenue management and strong corporate governance are essential for building resilient local authorities capable of delivering sustainable and people-centred development.
