VUNGU-The country’s main political rivals Zanu PF and embattled CCC will lock horns in Vungu District ward 14 by-election slated for November 11.
Chipo Anna Matambiko of CCC and Aaron Muchemwa of Zanu PF successfully filed their nomination papers with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission last week.
The elections for the ward was postponed following the demise of the Zanu PF candidate who collapsed and died after a short illness shortly before the August 23 harmonized elections.
Speaking to The Midweek Watch, Zanu PF Gweru District spokesperson Victor Maride said the party is poised for a resounding victory.
“Zanu PF is geared to win Vungu ward 14 council seat with our vibrant and able DCC secretary for science and technology. The ward is a bonus to the President and the party as the province is penciled to host the national conference,” he said.
He said Muchemwa has been assisting the vulnerable communities and is well known farmer in the area, hence they will vote for him overwhelmingly.
Meanwhile, CCC Mkoba North legislature and national organising secretary, Amos Chibaya said his party has lined up campaign programmes that include the door to door, adding that “the response is positive as they haven’t faced any challenges”.
