ZAKA- Two elephants which were spotted roaming in Ward 24 in Zaka district under Chief Bota are still at large with ZimParks officials on the ground tracking down the animals.

Ward 24 Councillor Zivanai Zvada confirmed the development in a telephone interview with The Midweek Watch saying the two elephants were last seen yesterday (April 14,2026) at Chikenen’ene area with the footsteps heading towards Siyawareva and Chiredzi River.

“Together with ZimParks officials, we are busy tracking the animals which were seen at Chikenen’ene yesterday.  We have seen their footsteps heading towards Chiredzi River in Siyawareva and we want to alert villagers in Ward 20 and Ward 7 to stay alert of the animals, ” he said

He warned residents in Wards 7, 20 and 24 to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movements especially during the night.

” Members of the public should remain vigilant and stay alert avoiding unnecessary movements particularly at night. Those who herd cattle should avoid venturing into bushy areas and once they come face to face with the animals, they must not attack them but alert the local leadership,” he said.

ZimParks spokesperson Luckmore Safuli said he was attending a workshop in Nyanga and was going to check with the team on the ground.

The elephants are believed to have strayed from Gonarezhou National Park in Chiredzi.
