The U20 Young Warriors aren’t at Confederation of Southern Africa Football Associations competitions. Zifa aim to have Zimbabwe at 2030 Morocco -Portugal–Spain World Cup. The U20 players would have been some of the stars at that World Cup if we qualify.
Whilst many footballing nations are concentrating in youth development it seems Zifa is on the opposite direction. This could have given the more than 60 young players in European elite academies to show case their skills, commitment to Warriors duty and adaptation to African football.
If one looks at the local league one would see that it is dominated by very old players in their 30s.This U20 Young Warriors Cosafa tournament would have been a great opportunity to revamp our youth structures.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s our soccer was on an upward trajectory because of a vibrant youth structures. Peter and Adam Ndlovu, Benjamin Konjera, Vitals Takawira etc were some of Warriors’ Dream Team who were products of a youth structures.
