GWERU-As the country heads for the crunch harmonized elections this Wednesday, Gweru residents has admonished the electorate to vote for leaders with integrity and not on the basis of the political parties they represent.
They said some people are now taking politics as a means for livelihoods rather than the call for service.
“It is the quality of the person that matters, not a political party he or she represents. We have before, made the mistake of voting political parties instead of capable individuals and I encourage our residents to avoid it by all means this time around,” said Marvellous Gumbo of Ascot extension.
Under the leadership of Mayor Hamutendi Kombayi, the local authority embarked on a massive road rehabilitation programme using funds from the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP II), in an effort to bring relief to motorists as the roads were no longer trafficable.
The local authority also upgraded and rehabilitated health facilities, transport, education, water and sanitation, as well as procurement of plant and equipment.
Today, the local authority commissioned service vehicles and tractors in line with the thrust of building a sustainable, prosperous city of choice by 2030.
The incumbent Mayor and his fellow council candidates remained resilient and loyal to the MDC-T, while other colleagues jumped the ship and joined the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa.
“Kombayi known for his militant stance, has been “pursuing equitable service delivery to residents as well as advocating for transparency and accountable on public resources at Council” said Nyasha Mabhena from Gweru Uban Constituency.
