ZVISHAVANE-FC Platinum’s quest to retain the Castle Lager Premiers Soccer League championship received a double whammy recently after falling 2-1 to ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium.
The latest defeat was the league’s 27th round of matches.
The Zvishavane-based side took the lead through star man Walter Musona but “Kauya Katuruturu” restored parity through Samuel Makawa before grabbing the winning goal to make it 2-1.
The Zvishavane-based side trail log leaders Ngezi Platinum by eight points with seven games to play.
The loss came as head coach Norman Mapeza’s first loss in six outings; however, the record was not enough to win him the Coach of the Month award.
The platinum miners have managed to amass 46 points from 13 wins, seven draws and seven losses while Ngezi has 54 points after picking up a 1-0 win over Chicken Inn.
Mathematically, the platinum miners are still in contention to win their fifth straight league title.
ZPC Kariba Head Coach Luke “Vahombe Masomere” was pleased with his charges’ performance.
“it was a good win especially against a good side with a good and very experienced coach,” said Masomere
