Gweru-Arguably the biggest fuel company in the country, Glow Petroleum has opened a state of the art service station in the city of progress today (16-05-23).
The fuel station which is situated along Bulawayo Road was done in partnership with the Roman Catholic Church Gweru Diocese and will also house listed Simbisa Brands food court.
Speaking during the official opening of the fuel station in Gweru today, Glow Petroleum managing director, Aaron Chinhara said they poured in over US$4m into the project.
“We are gathered here to officially commission the Glow Petroleum Gweru branch, a project which was established by Glow Petroleum Company in partnership with the Roman Catholic Church Gweru Diocese. This project was done for the benefit of the Gweru community as we feel that good things must be done for the citizens.
” We partnered the Church because we want it to strive more on the business concept as we want money which directly goes to the church for its activities and programs as we strive to wean the church from depending on tithes, offerings and pledges and become modern by venturing into business.
“The purpose of our partnership is to establish a business operations which change the communities and environment we live in,” said the shrewd businessman.
“We are also moving in to build a Smart City here in the City of Progress in partnership with the Roman Catholic Church and it’s going to be one of its kind. Offices are going to be built behind the garage for the church as well as a smart shopping mall. As am speaking all this is a dream which is going to materialize into reality not for myself but the Gweru community and for Zimbabwe at large,” he added.
Catholic Church Gweru Diocese Vicar General, Father Simon Mavhiya commended the Church and Glow Petroleum for the project.
“We enjoy the fruits of human endurance which has given us this service station today, as the Bible says unless God builds the city, the builders, build in vain. It is God who inspired us all to be here today, to work on this beautiful garage.
“It is God who provided Glow Petroleum with the idea and the church with the land to be here where we are today. As we witness this beautiful venture we are grateful to God as this was done for the people.” he added.
The Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Larry Mavima said the development was in line with the Government’s vision of improving livelihoods through modern infrastructure development.
