MUTASA-Record high scoring pass rate computer science teacher, Anesu Mautsa (49) is on the run for allegedly raping another pupil at arguably the best girls only school in the country, St David’s Bonda Mission in Mutasa.
Mautsa, who was alleged to have deflowered another pupil before at St David’s Girls High was this time on Sunday caught soon after raping another under age learner without a condom and bolted from the scene when security guards pounced on him with the girl in a friend’s car.
Sources at the school told The Midweek Watch that the first offence was not brought to finality because the parents of the pupil took their child to the UK before the matter was investigated.
The Anglican Church Registrar who is the head of information department Ashel Mutungura confirmed the sad incident to The Midweek Watch and said all protocols have been informed about the alleged misconduct by Mautsa including the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education who have instigated dismissal measures.
“Security personnel, accompanied by the Deputy Head (who had been alerted by the Senior Woman), immediately intercepted the vehicle. The door of the vehicle was forced open to secure the student, who was immediately escorted to the Headmaster’s office for protection and questioning. The accused educator fled the scene.
“The Headmaster was briefed and immediately initiated standard investigation procedures.
“During the preliminary administrative investigation, the student confirmed that the educator had engaged in gross misconduct, detailing his sexual involvement with her.
“Recognizing the severity of the offence, the school administration executed immediate notifications to all critical stakeholders within the mandated timeframes:
“An official criminal report was filed immediately for statutory rape and abuse of authority,” said Mutungura.
The scandal has triggered outrage among parents, education authorities and the wider community with police now leading a manhunt for the fugitive educator.
The drama unfolded on June 23 when the school security Venancia Mupandasekwa and Jonathan Tika received a tip-off that a female student had been seen entering the teacher’s vehicle Anesu Mautsa (49) of Florida Mutare.
The car was tracked to his residence within the school compound, where guards later intercepted the suspect as the student was released from the house. The teacher allegedly fled before he could be questioned, leaving the learner in protective custody.
Investigations revealed disturbing claims of repeated sexual encounters between the suspect and the student. The girl was immediately referred for medical examination and trauma counselling, while the matter was escalated to the police, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and the School Development Committee. Authorities described the incident as a grave violation of safeguarding policies, professional ethics and national law.
Mautsa attempted to bribe school security guards with US$2,000 to cover up the offence but his offer was rejected. Guards reported that they had witnessed him ferrying the Upper Six boarder to his residence, where she later confessed to having unprotected sexual intercourse with him on two separate occasions.
He allegedly gave her morning after tablets to prevent her from getting pregnant.
The deputy headmistress, Sekai Musanhu, immediately escorted the student to ZRP Mutasa to file a formal complaint. Police investigations confirmed that Mautsa sped off after being confronted and has since gone into hiding. He is also suspected of having engaged in multiple inappropriate liaisons with other minors at the institution.
In response, Bonda Girls High School has vowed to tighten security, strengthen counselling services and reactivate its Child Protection Committee to safeguard learners. Meanwhile, suspension and deregistration procedures against the accused teacher are underway as law enforcement intensifies efforts to bring him to justice.
This case has sent shockwaves through the education sector, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance, accountability and stronger child protection mechanisms in schools. National Police Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the case and said investigations are in progress as the suspect is on the run.
One of the students at the school has written an anonymous letter appealing for help. They fear the matter could be swept under the carpet just like the first one.
“As I am writing this my heart is bleeding. I would like to name and shame St David’s Bonda High School you have failed us as students . The ones supposed to protect us as the girl child are the ones violating us. It has been happening since when I was form 1 with no action being taken. Sir Mautsa, what has gotten into you? Surely helping a student to sneak into your house during Prep time using your friend’s tinted car is totally uncalled for. Society frowns at your action as you sleep with the girls with no protection.
For your own information those girls you manipulate they come and tell us their ordeal unfortunately they cannot realise that their virginity is being wasted away. It is time to take action! We appeal to law enforcement agents to help the girl child and apprehend this man. This has been happening for sometime now and what is painful is that the guy is spreading sexually transmitted infections. These STIs have assimilated at most girls at the school. Sometimes at the school laboratory we pass by hearing awkward sounds of sexual satisfaction during odd hours with girls of our age and we feel enough is enough! Our parents will be thinking we are protected here but no, Bonda has now become a touchline,” reads the letter.
