Gweru- Police have confirmed the death of a pedestrian who was knocked down by a truck along the Gweru- Zvishavane Highway yesterday at 1030pm.
after he was hit by a truck.
The incident occurred on the 4 June 2023 at the 118km along Zvishavane Road.
“Investigations are still in progress where a pedestrian was hit by a truck and died along the Zvishavane-Gweru Highway, we urge members of the public and motorists to observe all traffic rules and regulations and exercise due care when using the road,” said Midlands province Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
It is alleged that, Zimbowa Tichafara (30) of Council Park in Zvishavane was driving a Toyota Platz along Gweru Zvishavane Road and upon reaching 118km peg, he hit a pedestrian who was standing in the middle of the road while talking to another driver heading the opposite direction in a Mitsubishi L20 pickup truck.
The Mitsubishi driver had stopped by the roadway to ask for directions from the pedestrian.
It was also established that Zimbowa’s vehicle also side swiped with the truck and dragged the pedestrian for 42 meters.
