Truck driver in hot soup for possessing illegal drugs

HARARE- Police have arrested a truck driver, Edison Kazingizi (29) in Beitbridge over unlawful possession of 4800 mls of Benlyin Codeine, 5000 mls of Adyco Salterpyn and 5000 mls of Broncleer Cough Syrup.
In a statement, the ZRP national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the pharmaceutical drugs were hidden in the truck which was carrying drums containing oil from South Africa.
“Police in Beitbridge arrested an MNH truck driver, Edison Kazingizi (29) at Beitbridge Border Post in connection with unlawful possession of 48 x 100 ml of Benlyin Codeine, 50 x 100 mls Adyco Salterpyn and 50 x 100 mls Broncleer Cough Syrup.
“The contraband was hidden in the truck which was carrying drums containing oil from South Africa,” said Nyathi in a statement.
Meanwhile, police in Masvingo acted on a tip off and arrested Ammon Mataruse (27), Tinashe Matore (19) and Tatenda Mahachi (30) over unlawful possession of 15 twists of dagga, 300 mls Adcorsalterpyn, 300 mls Stilpane Cough Syrup, 300 mls Benlyin Cough Syrup and 300 mls Broncleer Cough Syrup.
The arrests come barely a few weeks after government has declared war on drug lords and drug peddlers to stem the drug abuse scourge.
