The phrase “Show me your friends and I will tell you your future” highlights the significance of the company we keep. As parents, it is essential to recognize the importance of knowing our children’s friends and the environments they expose themselves to.
The Bible warns us in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.'” Surrounding ourselves with positive, uplifting, and supportive people can inspire, motivate, and encourage us to reach our full potential.
As parents, it is crucial to know our children’s friends, who they are spending time with, and what kind of influence these friends are having on their lives. Are they being shaped by positive role models or negative ones? It’s essential to be aware of the company our children keep, as it can significantly impact their values, beliefs, and behaviors.
Here are some practical ways to do this:
- Get to know their friends: Take an interest in your child’s friends and engage with their parents.
- Monitor their activities: Know where your child spends their time and ensure you approve of their activities.
- Set boundaries: Establish clear boundaries and guidelines for your child’s friendships.
- Model positive relationships: Demonstrate healthy communication and conflict resolution skills.
Remember, the company we keep shapes our futures. As parents, it is our responsibility to ensure our children are surrounded by positive influences that promote confidence, capability, and compassion.
Let us be intentional about shaping our children’s futures by being mindful of the company they keep. HCC
