MUTARE-Perenial title challengers and former Castle Lager PSL outfit Tenax CS FC underlined their growing credentials as genuine title contenders in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League with a composed 2–0 victory over Manica Diamonds U19 at Chisamba Ground today.

Coming into the match full of confidence after their Munhumutapa Cup triumph over Great Zimbabwe University FC last week, the correctional services side delivered another disciplined and clinical performance.

Goals from Simon Munemero and Abhraham Sithole ensured Tenax maintained control of proceedings, punishing a youthful Manica Diamonds side that showed energy and attacking intent but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal. The win has moved them to the second position with 17 points behind log leaders Yadah FC

Speaking to The Midweek Watch after the match, Tenax head coach Gibson Matemera was full of praise for his team’s display:

“I’m very pleased with the performance. The boys showed great discipline, composure, and understanding of the game plan. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but they managed the match very well and took their chances when it mattered.”

Matemera also highlighted the importance of consistency as the title race intensifies

“The race is heating up, and every point is crucial at this stage. We are taking it one game at a time and treating each match like a final. The focus now is to maintain this momentum and keep improving.”

The victory takes Tenax to 17 points on the log, strengthening their position among the frontrunners in what is shaping up to be a tightly contested campaign.

On the other hand, Manica Diamonds U19 coach Hibron Makukutu  expressed disappointment with the result despite his side’s spirited performance:

“It’s a disappointing result for us because the boys gave everything. We created chances and showed hunger, but we lacked composure in the final third. These are young players, and matches like this are part of their learning process.”

He, however, remained optimistic about his team’s progress:

“There are positives we can take. The performance was encouraging, and if we continue working hard, the results will come.”

While Tenax continue to build momentum with another statement victory, Manica Diamonds U19 will look to regroup and turn promising performances into positive results in the coming fixture.
