Gweru- TelOne FC managed to secure a crucial victory after beating ZPC Munyati FC 2-1 in the ZIFA Ruvimbo Funeral Assurance Central Region Division 1 league game last Saturday.
Unfortunately, ZPC Munyati fans couldn’t swallow their pride, as they turned violent and, in the process, beat up a police officer who was maintaining peace at the stadium.
Police however managed to disperse the crowd and they arrested the suspect, but ZPC Munyati fans stormed the changing room demanding the release of their patron.
“Look that lady ( Munyati supporter) who is busy throwing stones and bottles inside the fence of the changing rooms., such hooliganism is bad , it is bad advertisement for our football,” said John Musuka ,a TelOne FC fan
A furious ZPC Munyati fan said, “the police was supposed to arrest both fans, why arrest our fan leaving out others, we are going nowhere without our colleague,” she added
ZPC Munyati head coach, Godfrey Tamirepi said, the match was balanced despite his side losing.
“It was a well contested match, despite the slow start on our side, as a result we got punished in the first half in early minutes. we also lost the ball possession in the midfield due to poor passing and it costed us.
“Second half we were in control of the game, our possession was good as we were a better team.
“We failed to get an equalizer as TelOne upped the game but we never looked back, we pushed forward and ended up getting a goal in 20 minutes of the second half. It was better,” said the respected gaffer.
Tamirepi further moaned the lost opportunities in the dying minutes of the entertaining match where one of his trusted goal getters shot the ball wide much to the amusement of the fans.
“Overally I am happy with the player’s performance despite that luck was not on our side,” he added.
Despite several attempts to get a comment from the TelOne assistant coach, Rutherford Matondo it was all in vain as the situation was tense.
